I've just been to the Dubai preview of MAC's autumn-winter trends and Vimi Joshi, MAC's regional make-up artist glowed as she described the NY backstage and, in a separate event, how she created a look for a famous Indian stylist for the show in India.
Imagine all the fun they have thinking up new styles, merging design inspirations and creating beautiful, stylish renditions from briefs as vague as 'samurais meet cartoons' as Joshi was given for the show in India.
Put a dab of glitter, draw wide lines, pat a little color - it's making me imagine looks that can be out of this world but will be anchored to earth by briefs that also ties it to the clothes' styles.
And you don't even have to be as slim, tall, made-up or fashionable as the models you will be working on! Not that it doesn't help. But look at Pat McGrat, who's now Max Factor's trend setter; she has designed numerous fashion shows and created world trends for years, always at the fore of beauty industry trends but almost always photographed wearing no make -- and there she's goes, making colorful splashes which trickles down to stuff that ordinary mortals can actually copy and wear on an everyday basis.

Dior couture, McGrath's make-up
A face is not just a face - it's a blank canvas where you can create! I've always enjoyed putting theater make-up, I just didn't realize that there was another application to it. Sigh... exciting world.
Ah... at least now I know what to say when asked the question, where would you be if you're not writing? I'd be painting faces.
